Challenge:

The Jubilee oil and gas field offshore Ghana was developed with several subsea production and injection wells, a dual network of risers and flowlines on either side of a deep sea ridge, and a turret-based FPSO, in water depths in excess of 1000 m. Instrumentation was installed in the well completion, in the subsea infrastructure and on the FPSO in order to acquire real time data about the asset performance.

A fit-for-purpose DOF solution was required to be developed around the data being acquired in order for the data to be appropriately utilized for pro-active decision-making, to bring about asset efficiencies and eventually improve the recovery from the reservoir.

DOF solutions available on the industry market were bulky, overdesigned for the Jubilee application, and fitted the description of the proverbial sledgehammer to crack a nut

Solution:

A custom-built, fit-for-purpose DOF solution was developed in-house by integrating standard applications available on the industry market, and creating custom workflows, in order to automate and perform pre-determined tasks in order to generate the required results. The DOF solution implemented covered the full spectrum of the hydrocarbon path from the reservoir to the custody transfer point, allowing automated and effective well, reservoir and facility management, including fiscal level allocation. This freed up engineering resources for pro-active decision-making related to effective asset management, and alleviated the need for data assimilation, data QA/QC and manual modelling effort

Value Added:

The bespoke and fit-for-purpose DOF implementation directly resulted in a savings of approximately US$ 2 million in upfront implementation and routine maintenance of an ‘off-the-shelf’ DOF solution. There were further opex savings of US$ 0.5 million per annum by virtue of reduced human resources required and efficiencies in asset management and technical and fiscal allocation.
